Our oldest turned 21 on Sunday.  Wingnut and I took her and the 18 year old to an Irish Pub for dinner and bought her her first "legal" Guinness.  We then all came home for cake and presents.

Here's proof the 18 year old is still alive and kicking.  He at least allowed me to take a few photos of him, but he had to be himself and make a goofy face.

The fourteen year old has decided she also needs to goof off in every photo.

They must take after the 21 year old.

Anymore candles and the smoke alarm will set off!

Keeping with the new tradition of giving books as part of their birthday gifts.  These are the selections for the 21 year old.  She was pleased.

Apple Cider Pancakes

Everyone loved these pancakes, except Wingnut Jr.  Apparently he only likes sour apple flavored things.

Apple Cider Pancakes
(makes a ton of pancakes)

3 cups all purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
3 eggs
1/2 cup butter; melted and cooled
1 cup milk of your choice (I used almond milk)
1 cup apple cider
1 cup unsweetened apple juice

In a large bowl sift together dry ingredients.  In another bowl whisk together the wet ingredients.  Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and stir gently until just incorporated.  Spoon by 1/4 cup onto a hot griddle.  They will look very thick but will spread as they cook.  Serve with warm maple syrup.
(ok, I didn't do that last step, but it sounds really yummy)

And Then She was 21

My dear daughter, I cannot believe how quickly time has flown by.  You made me a mother first and for that I am always grateful.  I have learned so much watching you grow, and I know I have so much more to learn.  Here is to a very happy birthday and a blessed new year in this world.  We are watching with great anticipation to see the woman God has called you to be. You are beautiful inside and out.  Know that you are greatly loved!

Birthday Books

Charlotte of Waltzing Matilda gave me a great idea for a new tradition: the gift of books.  She gives each of her children a pile of new books for Christmas; which I thought was a wonderful idea, but I decided it would work better for our family if one of their birthday gifts were books.  We have a fairly good library, but I've been wanting to kick start the future libraries of our children.  I've already purchased books for every birthday through March.

Lil' Lamb was absolutely thrilled with his selections.

Party Fit for a Ninja

Lil' Lamb's newest passions include Legos and Ninjas.  Thankfully, Lego has masterfully combined the two into Ninjago.  How fun is that for a little boy?!  Lil' Lamb thoroughly enjoyed his day.

Balloons with Ninjago eyes.

Legos just for Lil' Lamb (he's always making off with his siblings Legos)

His favorite meal--Copy cat Chick-fil-a nugget, tots, and carrot sticks.

Ninjago cupcakes that, thanks to Wilton, were super simple.  After frosting with a homemade icing, I spray dyed each cupcake in Ninjago character colors and then added Ninjago edible paper eyes that were drawn with edible ink.

3 candles and a birthday song.
