Detox

I am recovering from a bout with a pretty nasty flu.  Special K is down, but everyone else seems to be hanging in there. It was especially tough, as it seemed nothing could break the fever and nothing seemed to alleviate the symptoms for long.  I resorted to Mucinex Flu, but really the only effective treatments that gave me any semblance of relief were the lemon honey elixir I keep in the fridge for the sore throat and detox baths.  Neither the tea nor the bath seem to be actual cures for the flu, but they sure did help temporarily in a way conventional flu meds did not.

For the detox bath you will need epsom salts, baking soda, ground ginger, and essential oil of your choosing (eucalyptus and lavender work nicely).  Run your bath as hot as you can stand. Add 2 cups epsom salts, 1 cup baking soda, 1 TBSP ginger, and 20 drops essential oils.  Submerge as much of yourself as you can and soak at least 20 minutes, but 40 minutes is ideal. For children up to 60 pounds cut the recipe by 1/4 and for children 60 to 100 pounds cut the recipe by half.  Be sure to exit the bath carefully, you may feel a little woozy.  The ginger will likely cause you to sweat for some time after you exit your bath, but that will help draw out all the ick.  This bath is good for flu, colds, aches and pains, and workout recovery.
