Paying it Forward--It's a Giveaway!

A few weeks ago my friend and fellow blogger, Katie at Blessed with Full Hands, had a giveaway on her blog.  To my delight, I won!  The giveaway represented four of her "favorites" and my package arrived last Friday.  Tucked inside was a gift card to Dunkin' Donuts, representing her coffee love; a bag of delicious organic dark chocolate, representing her love for dark chocolate and from her favorite discount grocery; and a very cool hand-made acacia bead necklace; representing a favorite charity, Visiting Orphans.


Getting packages in the mail is fun--especially packages you didn't pay for yourself and that someone else hand picked to send to you.  I so enjoyed Katie's giveaway package that I'm going to pay it forward to one of my readers here.  To enter, just leave a comment in the combox describing the best surprise you've ever received in the mail.  This giveaway will be open for one week at which time one winner will be chosen randomly to receive a package of some of my "favorites" in the mail. Best surprise in the mail was actually a series of small surprises. I was receiving chemo and radiation for cancer, from which I have fully recovered, thanks be to God. My co-workers and sisters sent me cards and small items throughout this difficult time. Something arrived at least weekly. I asked later and found that there had been no organized plan for this -- just a Godincidence which bolstered my spirits.

I can't think of anything I've received in the mail that was a surprise (or at least not a good one!). I suppose I'm surprised whenever my coffee order comes in the mail - I never remember when it is due!

I once entered a poetry contest and completely forgot about it. I was reminded when first prize showed up in a mailing envelope on my doorstep!

Would it really be "paying it forward" if I enetered too?? ;-)

I recently ordered a shirt to support an orphan group . . . there were issues with the order and so when I got the package, they gave me lots of extra goodies! That was such a great surprise!

Years ago I was very blessed to receive a surprise inheritance from my deceased grandfather, to the tune of $10,000!!! I had no idea he had planned this for me. I held the check briefly, imagining what we could do with it, when my husband snatched it out of my hand and said it would pay off the loan on our minivan. It was good to pay off our loan, I knew, but it was so practical and I was hoping for a bit more fun and adventure!! Ah, it is always good to dream. . . .

I think the best surprise I got in the mail was waaaaaay back in middle school. Everyone wrote letters to pen pals in other countries and I was the only one to have someone write back. We've been pals since and it has been nearly 15 years! Plus, I got an invitation to his wedding in India this year! I wish I could have gone. =)

I think my best mail surprises were when my husband and I were dating. We met online and lived 400 miles apart so wrote old fashioned letters along with our emails. He made me a "letter cassette." (Remember tapes?) He carried around his cassette recorder and whenever he was in his car or alone he just chatted about his day or what was on his mind. It was such a treat to hear his voice and learn so many little things about him even when we were far away. 13 years later I still have those tapes and sometimes pop them back onto my old tape player. :-)

I once received a surprise cd by the group L'Angelous in the mail that is now my favorite cd. It was sent to me about 4 years ago and this past Christmas my husband to took me to hear the group perform. Wonderful night!

Annie, that is so funny, because I recall you won a L'Angelus cd here on my blog three years ago during lent! That cd was from me! Lol!

Oh my goodness, that's right! :-) Man, reading your blog has really payed off for me! LOL! Win this has totally made my month. I am 33 weeks pregnant, chasing two toddlers around an my whole family has been sick for the past 3 weeks. This was just the cheer me up I needed! Thanks again, Maurisa!
